I have always been fascinated by top performers, leaders, and changemakers. Those who become the best in their chosen fields. Those who are driven by a vision bigger than themselves. Those who have the inner strength and the courage to lead others. Those who never settle, never stop growing, and never give up.
I always wanted to know - What drives top performers and sets them apart from others? What helps them to stay focused and motivated? Can anyone become a top performer?
As any top performer knows, who you surround yourself with is key to improving your performance. So I decided to surround myself with the best.
I became a Private Banker to some of the most successful people in the world - think ultra-successful entrepreneurs, CEOs of multibillion-dollar companies, top athletes, world-famous musicians, etc. Except, I usually did not stay being their ‘Private Banker’ for too long.
I also realised that one of my greatest strengths was not simply strategy or problem-solving. It was the ability to listen deeply, reflect honestly, and help people see themselves, their challenges, and their opportunities more clearly.
Having learnt how ultra-successful individuals think, operate, and make decisions, I started applying their methods and ways of thinking to my own life. What happened? My results skyrocketed.
By the age of 27, I was heading up a banking division, reporting directly to the COO, and successfully leading a team generating over £1bn of new business a year. I won multiple industry and personal merit awards, hosted a podcast, and was frequently invited to speak at high-profile events. By all accounts, I had a dream career and was absolutely smashing it.
What I also learnt is that it’s easy to succeed when the waters are calm. But what really sets the absolute top performers apart from others is what they do in the storm. It’s how they perform under immense pressure, handle defeats and how they learn to bounce back quickly.
Life, turns out, has prepared just such a test for me. At work, with high positions and top performance came enormous stress levels, infinite exhaustion, and invisible loneliness. At home, I was navigating the lows of my partner’s severe depression, facing the reality of my mom’s life-altering diagnosis, and seeing my family being split in half by a violent geopolitical conflict.
At that time, it felt like life would never be ‘normal’ again. That I couldn’t cope. That it was too much.
This is what got me to where I am now. Since going through that tough period, I realised that my biggest ambition in life was to help other people to achieve amazing results and to help them to get through their tough periods - whatever they may entail.
I worked relentlessly to become a top life coach, acquiring knowledge and experience across a number of adjacent areas, and to become a trusted advisor yet again - now, to a different demographic of clients.
We are living in unprecedented times. Sure, every generation has its struggles but what we are now being faced with is quite unmatched. Struggling economies, global polarisation, raging wars, climate change - all on the backdrop of enormous mental strains and the unprecedented speed of change.
